Born in Mandaue (Cebu, Philippines), Jocelyn B. Gerra got her degree in Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology and MA Anthropology from at University of San Carlos (Cebu, Philippines). After working for 4 years in development and research, went back to her Alma Mater where she later became the Chair of the Sociology-Anthropology Department. In pursuit of higher academic learning she went to Hamburg University, Germany to earned her doctorate degree in Archeology. She now lives in Cebu, works as Executive Director for Culture and Heritage Unit of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc and is Lecturer on the side at the University of San Carlos, Department of Anthropology, Sociology and History (DASH)
