Workshop: What You See Isn't What It Is—How to Verify Citizen Video

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

As social media and YouTube footage play a greater role in reporting, journalists, activists, and human rights investigators face greater risks of being duped by footage claiming to be something it is not. This workshop, run by WITNESS, will provide real examples of online footage misinterpreted by journalists, falsely described by activists, and manipulated with the intention of inciting hatred or undermining authentic citizen reports. Participants will develop the skills of asking probing questions of online images, and learn tools and processes to assess whether they are looking at authentic footage, or whether they are the target of a hoax.
