The internet is awash in publicly available data about itself and its participants.  The availability of all of this data makes it possible to learn a lot about how online media works, but it also opens as many questions as it answers and can easily lead to mistaken conclusions.  In this session, we will look at the data behind some current research efforts by the Media Cloud projects to understand what kinds of open data are available online and how to think about the methodology of analyzing that data to come up with insights that are helpful in understanding the networked public sphere.
